Winter has been cold and harsh. I am beginning to shame myself for thinking I could best it alone, yet my struggles were not in vain. I have been able to survive the Winter and settle on these unforgiving lands and created a simple settlement which I have named Newbarton.
I have managed to carve a meager existence into the southern area of this new land, yet only able to procure the most basic of necessities; A small hut, a forge and anvil, a kiln, a furnace, some storage containers, a cart, and some things for creating leathers and rope. The area seems to be teeming with animals. My snares quickly fill and deer roam freely in my back yard. Meat and fur have not been a problem to get, yet the frozen ground did not yield much in the way of crops. I was able to scavenge some flax and a few vegetables for my needs, yet my current goals are to become more skilled at survival, learning as I go.
Spring has arrived and my first harvest of crops have been sewn. I don't expect much quality on this harvest as the soil doesn't seem to be in very good shape after the thaw. Most of my building projects have been halted due to lack of resources such as the flax dependant rope, and mortar that depends heavily on Flux, a product of Herbalisim. I have crafted a few herb boxes to help mass produce the few herbs I found to make the substance, yet it will take time, as most things do.
One other event of note, is that during the winter, I bought some goods to trade with the Ironfists and while my transaction was beneficial and proper, I was challenged to a wager of skills by them. A contest of marksmanship with the bow I had happened to carry for protection. Luckily, my aim wasn't awful and was able to hit the target once out of three, while my competitor missed all three shots, netting me an extra twenty silver extra on my trip. It was quite enjoyable and was a welcome respite to my workday.
My future plans is to further develop Newbarton, gain a stock of supplies and hope that the growing season is bountiful, although both the soil and my skills are of low quality. I hope for the best and pray to God that he may bless my lowly existence.
